Q: What is Thai Yoga massage?
A: Traditional Thai Yoga massage dates back to about 2,500 B.C., developed to address most human disease.  It works on the body’s energy lines.  These energy lines, if blocked, cause discomfort and disease.  A skilled practitioner uses hands, feet and elbows to focus on pressure points along the body’s energy lines, freeing up blockages and calming the mind – working from the soles of the feet, all the way up to the top of the head.

Q: What do I wear?
A: The client is asked to wear loose clothing and lies on a comfortable futon mat.  No oils are used.

Q: I’m in pain, how can Thai Yoga massage help?

A: Therapeutic Thai yoga bodywork is practiced specifically to treat certain diseases – please see the Benefits page for a list of symptoms.  Thai Yoga massage addresses the client with a holistic intention.  Melt Therapy loves tackling neck and back pain!

Q: I heard that Thai Yoga massage hurts.  Is this true?
A: Thai Yoga massage doesn’t hurt, if done correctly.  An intuitive, experienced practitioner will read your body and be able to bring you to the edge of “good pain” – it is at this threshold that the greatest release happens, while not traumatising your body more.

Q: But what about “no pain, no gain”?
A: We don’t subscribe to that concept.  If your body’s already out of whack, why would you pay to have someone hurt it more?  The human body contracts if threatened with pain, so that defeats the purpose of relaxing in order to receive the best therapeutic work.

Q: What if I’ve never taken a yoga class? Is this type of massage beneficial for me?
A: Yes! The nickname for Thai Yoga massage is “Lazyman’s Yoga” --  you get all the Benefits of having gone to a yoga class, but you don’t need to do any of the actual work, because Erica does it for you!  You achieve the stretches and calmness of mind, and walk away feeling superbly limber and grounded.  A pretty good deal, if you ask us.

Q: How will Thai Yoga massage help me in pregnancy, ante- and post-natal?
A: Melt Therapy has been an “auntie” to many a newborn, and believes firmly that giving your child the best starts in the womb.  If the mother’s body is well cared for and is supported during her pregnancy, the more effectively nutrients can be circulated to the unborn child.  Many pregnant women suffer from tiredness and the “usual” aches and pains. But, these are completely unnecessary during pregnancy if she allows her body to be treated in a consistent manner through Thai Yoga massage.  Not only does massage relieve tension, but it effectively unblocks energy, therefore allowing mother to be at her peak and an unborn child to receive only the very best.  Post-natal is a critical time when the mother’s body has undergone the trauma of childbirth and is expected to get back on its feet to attend to the newborn.  Sleepless nights and a sore aching body accompany.  Post-natal massage is crucial for helping the mother recover faster, so that she can be 100% effective as a new mum for her child.  (Make a mother happy by giving her a
gift voucher – whether she’s expecting, she’s a new mother, or she’s been a mother for a while!)

Q: How many sessions would you recommend?
A: We usually recommend 6-10 treatments, but it depends on the individual, what his/her body’s been through, and what s/he sets as an intention for treatment.  Thai Yoga massage comes from a holistic philosophy and encompasses the physical, emotional, and spiritual state of well-being.  It is good to keep in mind that trauma on the body manifests like layers of an onion, and the more work you allow your body to receive, the more layers can be lifted off.  Taking time out to have your body serviced brings about nothing but benefit, and you will feel a freedom in your body you’ve never experienced before.  Please enquire about Melt Therapy treatment packages.

Q: I heard that Thai Yoga massage can go beyond 2 hours?

A: Yes.  Unlike compartmentalised massages in the West, the true spirit of Thai Yoga massage is one of “loving kindness”, and honours the needs of the patient.  Therefore, if the patient is willing to receive healing, this can extend beyond the traditional length of 2 hours. Erica is experienced in giving powerful massages, ranging from 20 minutes to 5.5 hours. Find out more about treatments.

Q: I’m not bendy.  Is Thai Yoga massage for me?
A: Absolutely!  If anything, you’re a prime candidate, because all that gentle stretching will help your body feel great – and, over time, you’re body will regain suppleness.

Q: What’s the difference between Thai Yoga massage and Swedish massage?
A: Swedish (or any Western-style) massage is very much restricted to working with muscles and soft tissue.  The masseur will knead your muscles in an attempt to induce physical and emotional relaxation.  No doubt this provides relief in our world dominated by haste and stress.  But Thai Yoga massage goes further because it works the energy body: energy points along the body are pressed, and gentle pressure is used instead of kneading.  Thai Yoga massage incorporates a great deal of stretching, or applied yoga, which stimulates the energy flow of the body.  The effect is unlike any other massage.

Q: Can massage help in weight loss?
A: Regular massage can help you prepare your body for workouts, especially if you’re just getting back into a routine or training.  If you’re inflexible, Thai Yoga massage will help lengthen your muscles to their normal position, so that you get the maximum workout and don’t build up on contracted muscles.  Likewise, a strong Thai Yoga massage after an intense workout will push out all the pain-causing lactic acid building up in your muscles, preparing you for a more efficient workout next.

Q: Are massages available in the evening after work?
A: Definitely. Though, those time slots tend to be the most popular, so it’s best to book ahead.  It is worth calling up for a last minute appointment, as occasionally there are spaces or cancellations (please note that cancellations require 24 hour notice).

Q: Are Thai Yoga massage home visits available?
A: Yes.  A travel/set up cost will be charged, and this depends on your location.  Please call or
email for a quote, and have your postcode ready.
